Take a Chill Pill

It’s an odd reality to still have your plate so full, to still have a long list of to-do’s, and to be bombarded with so many things even though you’re on home quarantine. How is it that there are so many things to be done? The worse reality is to feel like you have more things to attend to presently, compared to when there was traditional office life and home life to juggle.

Chances are, you are overworked. You are over-functioning and trying to be so many things at once. Living a life like this have four main detrimental effects.

#1 You become negative: How many forwarded messages do you read in a day? How many news shows do you subject yourself to? How many hours do you spend scrolling on your phone? You might not be noticing it, but this is making your MIND FULL. While it is not bad to care, make sure you’re filtering the necessary. Care without becoming fixated. It is essential to de-clog your thoughts because mental exhaustion will eventually translate to physical exhaustion.

#2 You become exhausted: Check your body: Are you experiencing headaches? Body pain? The body is the best stress indicator. When you’re overworked, your immunity dampens and you become more susceptible to disease. It is essential to take precautionary measures in lifestyle, to choose to keep on moving and engaging in activities that are out of your routine. Whether this in home exercise, learning a new skill, going for a short
walk, move and get your butt off your work chair. Keep in mind that there is a mind-body connection and what your mind feels, your body absorbs.

#3 You become too reactive: If you’re high-strung, easily irritated, frantic, or find your emotions to be all over the place, take it as a warning sign. Becoming reactive can also unconsciously harm your relationship with your kids and family members as you may find yourself barking at them for the shallowest and unworthy reasons even though you might not “mean to.” Reactivity makes it harder for you to connect to yourself and makes
it difficult to pinpoint where your emotions are coming from. Instead, make an effort to respond appropriately instead of mindlessly reacting.

#4 Your spiritual life will suffer: When you’re overworked, the posture of your spirit goes out of shape. Your prayers might be an endless string of cries which may be coming from the wrong place. Our prayer life becomes more fearful instead of faithful. This quarantine season is a good time for us to enrich our spiritual lives and it is only through re-balancing of our mind, body, and emotional wellbeing that we will also be able to integrate ourselves properly to foster a healthy relationship with the Lord.

Work on not being overworked. Actress Lily Tomlin made a good point when she said, “For fast-acting relief, try slowing down.” It just might be better than any medicine you’ve ever known – WITH PAU DE VERA
