This quarantine season has been a stressful time for many so today’s post will revolve around knowing how to cope with the situation. Taking a proactive stance will always be the healthy thing to do because you’re protecting your energy from outside stressors that can worsen the already ill feelings that you have within.
Let’s go straight into discussing various mood-boosting activities! Maybe you can pick up an idea or two, and apply it to your daily life and boost your joy in these uncertain times.
MUSIC: Some people find that listening to music, dancing to it, simply getting lost in it is a relaxing experience.
DRESSING UP: Looking good is something that you do not have to do for other people. Looking good for yourself is an act of self-love. What is so weird about wearing earrings at home? Or dressing up even though you have nowhere to go to? If it makes you feel good, go for it!
SCENTS: Whatever your weapon of choice is – oil or scented candle, go ahead and turn your home into a living spa. Your senses will feel relaxed and your body will feel more pampered.
LAUGHTER: When we laugh, we release happy hormones such as dopamine and oxytocin which elevates our mood. Tickle your loved ones, tell corny jokes, and share fun memories. It does not only boost the mood but also improves relationships.
PLAY: Create and indulge in things that tap into your creative side. This for me is doodling, designing my planner, and drawing. I also love making handmade soap! Find what brings you joy because having these activities are life- and joy-giving.
BEAUTY: Are your surroundings appealing? Does it uplift you? Surround yourself with things that are pleasing so your emotions towards it will also always be positive.
These are examples of some things that we can do to boost our moods. They are an outward expression of our self-love. There are also some inward activities that we can do boost our inner selves.
SAVOR: These are thoughts and actions that create, amplify, and sustain enjoyment. It is savoring an experience, an activity, and a memory. It is making the most out of an experience by appreciating the present moment with vigor and enthusiasm.
GRATITUDE: This is an attitude of thanks for your experience. This is counting your blessings and refusing to take anything for granted. This allows us to savor our life experiences.
Boosting our mood need not cost us so much money. We only need to look at what we have, maximize our resources, and be more attuned with our mindset and the way we look at things. If we can see the good in everything, no matter how small, then it would be easier for us to celebrate when greater things happen for us. – WITH PAU DE VERA
