What are your goals and plans? How are you living out the word, “thrive” these days? In a sentence, thriving is not needing the perfect conditions but still pursuing our best in order to grow and flourish as persons. This pandemic season is undeniably challenging us to redefine the word success. Is it really all about money and power? Now that we have witnessed how material things don’t have a practical use during the quarantine, we are left thinking.
While money and power are two worldly metrics, the third metric of success has four pillars: well-being (caring for ourselves holistically), wisdom (this calls for re-learning the things we already have a good grasp on in order to apply in our lives better), wonder (which speaks about enjoyment and delight in life), and giving (influencing others by extending ourselves because sharing is caring!).
It takes small and consistent steps to thrive. There are small daily practices that we can do in order to thrive in this uncertain time. Here are nine:
#1 Laugh because it is a simple delight that we should never take for granted!
#2 Play because this activity widens our world by breaking routines and fostering creativity.
#3 Get good sleep because this allows our bodies to rewind, recharge, and recuperate.
#4 Be physically active because you should always have the mindset that “my body needs me and I need my body!”
#5 Practice mindfulness for it allows the seeing and appreciating of things we don’t usually do.
#6 Attend to beauty in the natural world to attune ourselves to all the good that we are surrounded with.
#7 Eat well and enjoy healthy food for unprocessed food can do more harm than good. Always balance this out with your greens and fruits! Know that eating healthy goes beyond counting calories.
#8 Practice gratitude and constantly ask yourself, “what am I grateful for?”
#9 Enjoy uplifting experiences that take you beyond yourself.
These are nine personal practices that do not only allow you to thrive but also make your days brighter, more charged with joy, and worthwhile.
Before I wrap up this post, allow me to also quickly share with you some general practices that you can include in your routine to also support your journey to thrive in your life endeavors.
Have a friend that you can confide in; someone you can share the load with so you can feel cared for and understood when things get difficult.
Move away from temptation by knowing which things are good for your body and which ones aren’t. These include knowing when you’re pushing your body too far or when your food intake isn’t at its best. This calls for self-control and self-knowledge.
Cultivate practices that allow you to develop positively as a person. Indulge in all that helps you grow.
Lastly, find ways to increase efficiency and competence in things that you want to accomplish.
I believe that we can all thrive in conditions that are imperfect. It always boils down to maximizing what we have and knowing how to care for ourselves because no one knows our body or mind better than us. With our holistic well-being as a top priority, I know that whatever life throws at us, we’ll come out as adaptable and resilient human beings.
