20 to 40: Excitement or Regret?

We shall be sharing some excerpts from my upcoming book, “The Beauty of 40: Unwrapping the Gift of Midlife” in our next few blog posts. Do enjoy these snippets from my midlife musings, and give some time to reflect on your journey as well. We would love to hear about your thoughts and experiences.

“At 20, I graduated from college, had my first work, and had my first love. At 20, I got my first pair of Keds bought from my own earnings. At 20, I was full of hopes, dreams, and ideals on what the real world has to offer me! Adulthood here I come! Eto na ko with a diploma! May alam at mature na ‘ko. There was a feeling of anticipation and hope for what life would be!”

“Being 20 was awesome with the new sense of independence, having means to pay my way for things and experiences. Then at 40, it was double the age, double the experiences, and ideally, double the wisdom.”

Do you remember how you were like in your 20s? Were you all giddy about your new-found independence or were you filled with anxiety about what was to happen next? However you managed this exciting decade of your life, it is almost always worth going back to. Moments of introspection give you time to take stock of events in your life that honed and shaped you.

Now take a pause and compare the 20s you to the 40s you. What has changed? What has remained the same? Your answers will amaze you, or at the very least, enlighten you.
